Tuesday 24th November - Poetry

I found this on the fridge:

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Full moon, half moon ... total eclipse

I don't know whether it's better or worse to find a jaffa cake with it's orange jelly on the side with no chocolate, or to find a jaffa cake with no jelly at all.

Monday 23rd November - Ugh

I don't really have the energy to coherently form sentences to describe the last 48 hours, so I'll bullet point some highlights and let the photographs do the rest of the talking.

Highlights:
  • Art installation comprising of the things in the cleaning cupboard.
  • A game of 'bogies' -albeit very brief- substituting the word 'bogies' for 'penis'.
  • A super-duper-hyper first year armed with a UV pen.
  • Ring of Fire.
  • Mr Men.
  • Attempting to juggle apples.
  • The hallway maze.
  • The smell of aloe vera shaving foam.
(Sorry they're not in order)

Where is it?

During my routine late-night snacking I discovered an awful thing - I had been robbed ... of the orange-flavoured jelly in my jaffa cake!

The pain.

Friday 20th November: Reason 7 - Raisin Weekend

This weekend is the beginning of the carnage we call 'Raisin'. I won't bother you with the technicalities, but it consists of copious amounts of alcohol, foam and academic incest. Oh the memories.

Raisin Monday - the day of getting dressed up by your mum, receiving your raisin reciept from your dad and the culmination of the day: the grand foam fight on the quad- is not an official university holiday, but with first year students reeling from the weekend's events one soon finds lectures and tutorials cancelled.

This year my 'mum' has asked us around for tea and scones which should be nice. I had planned to avoid town altogether on Sunday (because I know for a fact that there will be students draped over the kerb, with pools of sick dotted around town like a Hansel and Gretel bread trail) but I've been invited to a raisin party.

I'll see what the weather's like.

Thursday 19th November - Think Today, Tomorrow and Every Day

It's World Philosophy Day. So if you only do one thing today, let it be that you sit down like Rodin's Thinker and be pensive. Even if it's only for a little while ... thinking about why the hell you are sitting in a chair sqaundering away time being pensive.

Wednesday 18th November - BUSY

Provisional exam timetables were made available online today. Why is it every time I've had exams that God seems to find it funny to have them spread out from the beginning of the week right up to the penultimate day?

It could be worse I guess, I could have more than three exams AND not have a ski week to celebrate afterwards.

----------------------

The Catcher in the Rye. Depressing much? Good book an' all, just that for leisure reading I was looking for something a little bit more 'cheery'. That's the last time I choose a book based on how thin it is.

---------------------

Don't you just hate filling in forms where you are basically required to BS about every little thing you've done in your life as if it was the most significant world-changing thing ever? I know it's what the people who read applications are looking for, but there is only so much I can say about my activities and interests.
This rant is not unwarranted by the way. I'm currently applying to study abroad in America for next year. Here's just an example of some rubbish I've jotted down:

To be able to study in America would open my eyes to the idiosyncrasies and quirks of its culture that only living such a lifestyle can provide. Naturally good grades are what I'd be aspiring to achieve, but just like other things in life, thers is more to it than what you look like on paper.

Monday 16th November - In Dire Need of Sleep

From vibrating order numbers to excruciatingly painful renditions of 'My heart will go on', I've had a great couple of days re-living what it was like to be at Sixth Form. But, reading week is now over and this is where the fun of essays and preparation for exams begins.

Writing's been quite thin lately and with all these pictures I'm beginning to think that this is just becoming a photo blog. Oh well, I don't hear anyone complaining. I don't hear anything actually apart from the sound of my own voice.
